Donald Trump showed today he’s not playing ball with House Republicans, who apparently haven’t got the message from the American people that they tired of their way of governing in Washington.
Today, the President-elect soundly criticized House Republicans after they decided to gut the House Ethics Office and replace it with a new “Office of Congressional Complaint Review” that would conduct its work under the auspices of the House Ethics Committee.
Trump got right on Twitter, sending out two tweets lambasting the move by the majority of House Republicans, who overrode their leaders attempts to stop the measure to kill the ethics board.
“With all that Congress has to work on, do they really have to make the weakening of the Independent Ethics Watchdog, as unfair as it...may be, their number one act and priority. Focus on tax reform, healthcare and so many other things of far greater importance! #DTS”
It didn’t take long for those pushing the measure to suddenly withdraw it.
One thing you can’t forget about President-elect Donald Trump is that he has not a big fan of the Republican establishment.
At times during the presidential campaign, particularly during the primaries, Trump brutalized the moribund GOP.
Remember when he alleged the GOP primary process was rigged. During the Colorado primary race, he alleged the GOP primaries were a flawed nominating process and singled out his now Chief of Staff Reince Priebus in his criticism:
“It's a disgrace for the party. And Reince Priebus should be ashamed of himself. He should be ashamed of himself because he knows what's going on.”
It was all part of his “draining the swamp” plank, where he promised to clean up Washington if elected president.
I looks like Trump is ready to rumble with the GOP again, even though there’s been a sort of honeymoon period going on since his victory.
His two tweets, characterized by incoming White House press secretary Sean Spicer as a “question of priorities,” should also serve as a warning to the unbending conservative GOP swamp rats that they need to also cease and desist their crippling and embarrassing vindictiveness and corruptive behavior - or face the wrath of the First Tweeter who just showed he continues not to be a big fan of theirs at all.
